Staff Nurse (Across Acute & Older Adult Acute Wards) – Prospect Park Hospital

What’s special about this opportunity?

Based in Reading, located close to the amenities of the town centre and a leafy park, Prospect Park Hospital works closely with patients who have mental illnesses, to help them identify their needs and participate actively in their recovery, providing a place of nurture, where they can find hope and meaningful purpose to their lives. We have created a culture where everyone has a voice and where service users and staff collaborate to make positive change.

At Prospect Park Hospital, we can offer you a rewarding career, with great opportunities, where you can really make a difference to people’s lives.

Join our highly skilled and supportive mental health team and you can choose the work environment that most suites your interests. We have four mixed adult wards (Rose, Bluebell, Daisy and Snowdrop) providing care to adults with mental health conditions; and two older adult acute wards: Rowan Ward, specialising in patients with dementia related illnesses; and Orchid Ward, supporting older adults with other mental health conditions, such as Bipolar affective disorder, depression and schizophrenia.

About you:

Whether you are a newly qualified or an experienced staff nurse we will nurture your talents and support your development. You are an enthusiastic and experienced registered mental health nurse with a passion for caring for vulnerable patients. With excellent communication and people skills, a warm personality and the resilience to help us transform our patients’ lives, you will have a good understanding of acute mental health treatment and legislation. Eager to share your knowledge when managing and mentoring more junior members of staff, you will be an inspirational member of our team, striving to be your very best and supporting colleagues in the delivery of compassionate, safe and structured care. You will be proactive, ensuring seamless delivery across a multi-disciplinary team and be able to work without direct supervision, showing initiative and a determination to support patients and their families through creative engagement. A calming influence, you will be able to deal with difficult and distressing situations professionally and with sincerity.  Your energy and drive will be rewarded with the support of an enthusiastic team that strives to create a warm, friendly and compassionate environment.

What’s special about the Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust?

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust can provide you with a dynamic, people-centred environment, where you will be empowered to support and help transform patients’ lives. We value our employees and put people first. We will provide you with an excellent working environment that has just been recognised with a ‘Good’ rating overall, and as an ‘Outstanding’, well-led, organisation in our latest CQC inspection, which found that: ‘The staff across all the community health and mental health services we inspected showed a caring attitude to those who used the Trust services. Staff in all services were kind, compassionate, respectful and supportive. People who used services were appropriately involved in making decisions about their care.’

Working in a passionate team, you will have access to our Trust-wide Learning and Development programme and be supported in your career and personal growth, with opportunities to build your Continuing Professional Development portfolio, enabling you extend your skills and ensure that you excel.
