The CHPS service is a dynamic and friendly team which offers weekly support and CPD opportunities for all psychologists. We are passionate about delivering high quality care across long term and life limiting illness and developing innovative ways of service delivery. CHPS provides specialist psychological input in a variety of physical health areas including diabetes, pain management, cancer, ICU, CFS/ME and gastroenterology.

We are happy to consider applications for a band 7 preceptorship role. The successful candidate will be supported via a preceptorship process to progress from a Band 7 to a Band 8a over a period of 18- 24 months dependent on experience & attainment of the needed competencies.

Main duties of the job

Highly Specialist Clinical Health Psychologist band 8b – Weight Management, Lead – 0.4 WTE

An experienced and motivated clinical or counselling health psychologist to lead and develop a team of psychologists delivering input to weight management services in Berkshire.  The role requires innovative thinking in providing support to patients and an understanding of the service framework required to deliver this effectively.

Highly Specialist Clinical Health Psychologist band 8a – Weight Management – 0.6 WTE

Working alongside other psychologists, consultant surgeons and physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the preparation for, and management of, bariatric surgery. You will be encouraged to contribute to the development of services. They will provide clinical supervision for an assistant psychologist, as required and input to individual and group programmes, both pre- and post- surgery.

Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist band 8a - Haematology / Cancer Care - 0.5 WTE or Gastroenterology - 0.3 WTE

You will join a wider Clinical Health Psychology Service (CHPS), which is comprised of 14 qualified psychologists, 3 assistant psychologists, trainees and an administrator. CHPS provides specialist psychological input in a variety of physical health areas including diabetes, pain management, cancer, ICU, CFS/ME and gastroenterology.

The 4 “must haves” to know whether you should apply

  • Post graduate doctoral qualification in clinical/counselling psychology (or equivalent). And for 8b posts these should include specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, health psychology and two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registered with Health Care & Professions Council (HCPC) and interest of working in multidisciplinary teams / multi-agency environment as well as experience of teaching / training of health care professionals.
  • Evidenced post qualification training and expert knowledge in areas of specialism and the ability to use knowledge when interacting on health and social care subjects.
  • For posts at Band 8a you will need at least two years and for band 8b four years demonstrable post-qualification experience.

  • HCPC practitioner psychologist registration
  • Evidenced post qualification training and expert knowledge in areas of specialism and the ability to use knowledge when interacting on health and social care subjects.
  • For posts at Band 8a you will need at least two years and for band 8b four years demonstrable post-qualification experience.
