Modern Matron – acute mental health in-patients, Reading, Berkshire.

Full time - band 8a

What will the role involve?

Working in our modern in-patient service, on a nine-month-fixed-term-contract, your role will be pivotal as a member of our senior leadership team, providing support and acting as a role model across our clinical services for 2 acute mental health wards (Daisy and Snowdrop). You will be accountable and responsible for these teams and work alongside three other matrons in the hospital embedding a culture of continual improvement into our day-to-day service and managing ward managers. Whilst management is an important element of this role, this will be balanced with significant clinical commitments working alongside Consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, therapy and senior staff.

A great mix of management and clinical work.

In addition, you will be required to serve as duty senior nurse across the hospital on a 9am-5pm basis periodically, as well as working on call for the hospital out of hours for one week, with a two per cent allowance on top of your basic salary supporting this extra time.

About you:

You may be looking for a change in career direction with a move back into an in-patient setting, this role will provide you with the opportunity to utilise both your managerial and clinical skills. An enthusiastic and experienced healthcare professional with a warm personality, excellent communication and people skills, and the resilience to help us transform our patients’ lives, you will have undertaken mentorship training and have a passion for caring for people with mental health conditions. You have an experience working in an in-patient setting and a good understanding of mental health treatment and legislation. As an inspirational leader, you will be sensitive to the needs of others, and be committed to supporting your team in the continual development of our service.  Ensuring a seamless service across a multidisciplinary team, you will have exceptional organisational skills.  An ambassador for our service, you will be calm and confident in emotionally demanding situations and astute at setting and maintaining professional boundaries.   An empathetic advocate for patients, you will ensure that their dignity is maintained and cultural and spiritual values met.
